To help your child feel confident and safe when catching the bus independently, consider the following tips:
- Practice the Route Together: Walk or ride the route with your child a few times before they travel alone.
- Teach Bus Safety: Explain how to wait safely at the bus stop, board and exit the bus properly, and behave respectfully on public transport.
- Set a Schedule: Make sure your child knows the bus timetable and what to do if the bus is late or doesn’t arrive.
- Use Contact Cards: Provide your child with a card that has your contact details and the school’s details in case of an emergency.
- Encourage Communication: Make sure your child knows how to contact you or the school if they need help.
